Cathode-Ray Tubes Are So Yesterday

Did you know 4 extra inches will cost you a couple thousand bucks? Mind out of the gutter folks, we're talking TV's.

Seems we need to go ahead and buy the flat screen for the family room so the electrician will know where to mount it. Oh and the surround sound, we need that too. So I have been doing some research because the last time we bought a TV was, hmmmm let's see.......... Never.

Well, let me clarify. We have bought both of our children small TV's with built in DVD players. And we bought a car with a TV in it, does that count? But we have never purchased a large TV set meant for family viewing.

In our bedroom we still have the TV set I got for Christmas when I was like, 13 maybe 14. It works fine so I have to say Go Magnavox! In our Living Room right now we have some sort-of reject from the restaurant and you have to hit it on the side to make the picture clear. This is handy and a very classy addition to our home.

So now you're not thinking I'm a spoiled brat for getting a new TV for the new house are ya? If you are then you're just mean because a girl deserves a new TV every 19 years or so.

So back to the research. Costco has a 42" on sale for $999, a deal I don't think we can beat. However, we were really wanting something a little bigger. We can get a good 46" for around $1400-$1600 which would be okay. BUT for just $4000 you can have a top-of-the-line 50". Huge price jump for only 4" more, right? These are all LCDs because from my reading Plasmas look much better in dark rooms. And some companies are now making Plasmas for commercial operation only. Our family room will not be dark, at least not dark enough. So if you know great things about Plasmas e-mail me now because I can get a much better deal on one of those.

So, off for a day of TV shopping. On paper this would seem to be the absolutely perfect activity for us- combing shopping (for me) and TV (for him) Hope it works out that way!
